Published · The Villa Mauritius

Mauritius has eleven 18-hole golf courses: Mont Choisy Le Golf in the north, Tamarina in the west, Avalon, Le Château, La Réserve Golf Links and Paradis in the south, Anahita, the Legend, the Links and Île aux Cerfs in the east, and the Gymkhana in the centre. All are within about an hour and a half of each other. Here they are with their designer, par, year and the drive from Mont Choisy.

The eleven 18-hole courses

Most belong to resorts or golf estates and take visitors on green fees, a few only on request or mainly for their hotel guests; the Gymkhana at Vacoas is a private members' club and one of the oldest courses in the southern hemisphere. Drive times are estimates from Mont Choisy outside rush hour; add a quarter of an hour around Port Louis in the morning.

02

The north: Mont Choisy Le Golf

The only 18-hole championship course in the north, between Grand Baie and Trou aux Biches, on a former sugar cane plantation. A Peter Matkovich par 72 of 6,447 metres from the back tees, officially opened in October 2017, with an academy and a double-ended range. It hosted the Mauritius Open in December 2022 and December 2024 and hosts it again from 10 to 13 December 2026. The visitor rate was 9,300 rupees for 18 holes in 2025, buggy included. It is the course closest to the beaches, restaurants and catamarans of the north, and The Villa Mauritius stands inside its estate.

03

The east: Belle Mare, Anahita and Île aux Cerfs

The east coast has the most courses close together. Constance Belle Mare Plage has two: the Legend, a par 72 by Hugh Baiocchi from 1994, and the Links, a par 71 by Rodney Wright and Peter Alliss from 2002; green fees are complimentary for the hotel's guests. Anahita, a par 72 by Ernie Els opened in 2008, has six holes along the ocean. Île aux Cerfs Golf Club, by Bernhard Langer, covers an island reached by a boat shuttle; its 2026 to 2027 rate is 10,600 rupees for 18 holes, with a buggy extra and compulsory from October to May.

04

The west and the south: Tamarina, Avalon, Heritage and Paradis

Tamarina, at Tamarin, is a Rodney Wright par 72 of almost 7,000 metres along the Rempart river, in the driest part of the island. Avalon, at Bois Chéri in the tea country of the south, is a Peter Matkovich course on high ground with views over the mountains around Grand Bassin. At Bel Ombre, Heritage Golf Club has two 18-hole courses: Le Château, a Matkovich design from 2004, and La Réserve Golf Links, a contemporary links by Louis Oosthuizen and Peter Matkovich opened in December 2023, which Top 100 Golf Courses ranks first in Mauritius. Paradis, at the foot of Le Morne, is the course of the Paradis and Dinarobin hotels.

The Mauritius Open: where it is played

The AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open is the island's professional tournament, co-sanctioned by the DP World Tour and the Sunshine Tour. Since 2022 it has alternated between Mont Choisy Le Golf and La Réserve Golf Links, in December.

Green fees in 2025 and 2026

Green fees for 18 holes run from about 100 to 200 euros and are charged in rupees. The published visitor rates are 9,300 rupees at Mont Choisy (2025, buggy included) and 10,600 at Île aux Cerfs (2026 to 2027, buggy extra). Other courses quote around 5,500 rupees at Tamarina and between 175 and 195 euros at Anahita and Le Château; check with the club before you play. Several resorts include green fees for their own guests on their home course, sometimes with conditions, and estate residents often pay a lower rate. Rates change every season: we confirm the current ones when we book your tee times.

07

The 9-hole courses

Three short courses complete the picture. The Nine at Azuri, Roches Noires, in the north-east, is a par 27 of par 3s, named the world's best par 3 course at the World Golf Awards 2025. The Maritim hotel at Balaclava, fifteen minutes from Mont Choisy, has a 9-hole course for its residents. Heritage at Bel Ombre has a 9-hole course next to its two 18-hole courses.

Staying in Mont Choisy

The Villa Mauritius is a private four-suite villa for eight guests inside the Mont Choisy Le Golf estate, a few hundred metres from the first tee and three minutes from the beach.
