How much does it cost to rent a villa in Mauritius?

Villas in Mauritius are rented as a whole house, so the price is per night for everyone, not per person. The table gives orders of magnitude read from agency and platform listings for the north coast in 2026. The same house can cost twice as much at Christmas as in July, which is why every range is wide.

Four things set the rate. The number of en-suite bedrooms, because that is what fixes the size of the group. The location: a house with its feet in the water or inside a gated golf estate costs more than one in a village street. The standard of the house and what comes with it, such as a cinema, a gym, a heated pool or staff living on site. And the season, which matters more than anything else.

Divide by the number of guests and the picture changes. A villa at 1,500 euros a night for eight is under 190 euros per person, breakfast made at home and a private pool included. Low season runs from May to September: the southern winter, dry and mild at 26 to 28 degrees by day, the best months for golf and the lowest rates. October, November, March and April are the shoulder months. December to February is high season, and the festive fortnight from about 20 December to 5 January is the most expensive period of the year, often with a minimum of ten nights.

Minimum stays are usually five to seven nights, longer over Christmas. Book six to nine months ahead for December and Easter, two to three months ahead for the rest of the year.

A good villa rate includes housekeeping several days a week, pool and garden maintenance, electricity, air conditioning, water, wifi, bed linen and towels. Ask about each one: some cheaper listings charge electricity by the meter, and air conditioning running all day in January is not a small bill.

What is not included, almost everywhere: meals and drinks, a private chef, airport transfers, car hire, boat trips, green fees and the tourist fee. A refundable security deposit is taken before arrival or at check-in and returned after departure once the house has been checked.

Since 1 October 2025 Mauritius charges a tourist fee of 3 euros per tourist per night, collected by the accommodation, villas included. Children under 12 do not pay. For eight adults over seven nights it comes to 168 euros. Some hosts include it in their price, most add it: ask before you book.

Airbnb, Booking and Vrbo add a guest service fee on top of the host's price, and the host pays a commission too. Booking directly with the owner removes the service fee and puts you in contact with the people who run the house before you arrive. The usual terms for a direct booking are a deposit of around 30 percent to confirm, the balance a few weeks before arrival, and a cancellation policy written in the contract. Pay by bank transfer or card through a payment link, never in cash to a stranger, and check that the villa is real: recent photos, an address, a person who answers.

Our own villa, four suites for eight guests inside Mont Choisy Le Golf, is rented at 1,500 euros a night from May to September, 1,800 euros in the shoulder months, 2,200 euros from December to February and 2,900 euros over the festive period. A week in June comes to 10,500 euros for the house, about 188 euros per person per night, with housekeeping, utilities, wifi, linen and welcome groceries included. A week in March is 12,600 euros. On top, the tourist fee for eight adults, the transfers and whatever the group chooses: a chef for a few evenings, a catamaran day, a few rounds of golf.
