May is the turn of the season. The heat drops to around 28 °C by day, nights cool to 18 or 19 °C, the air dries out and the cyclone season officially ends on 15 May. The sea is still about 27 °C. It is one of the best months of the year: good weather, quiet beaches and low-season prices.

What to do in Mauritius in May
May opens the golf season: courses are in their best condition and the mornings are cool. The trade winds pick up on the south and west coasts, which starts the kitesurfing season at Le Morne, and May is the most consistent month for surf at Tamarin. 1 May is Labour Day. Trail runners come for the Royal Raid, held on 9 May in 2026.
